DriveThru’s onsite advertising is generally reserved for titles currently available, not for pre-orders or crowdfunded projects. However, Partner Relations can send a customer email promoting your crowdfunding project.
Requirements
- Emails can be sent only to your existing DriveThru customers (i.e., those who have purchased your titles previously and opted into publisher communications). We will not override customer preferences.
- Your project must be at least partially fulfilled through a DriveThru storefront. Distribution of PDFs or other eBooks is sufficient.
- A “Fulfilled by DriveThru” graphic must appear clearly on the page the email is sending traffic to, whether pre-launch or the live campaign. (Download graphics from the Crowdsource Graphics page.)
Limitations
- Exclusive Partners: Up to two emails per campaign.
- Non-Exclusive Partners: One email per campaign.
- For both, the timing is up to you: pre-launch, at launch, or at end of campaign.
Scheduling
- You must submit your request at least 3 business days before the desired send date. Requests made at the last minute will not be accepted.
- Partner Relations does not send emails on weekends.
- Delays are likely during major conventions (Gen Con, Origins, etc.).
- DriveThru reserves the right to decline any email request based on team bandwidth.
How to Request a Crowdfunding Email
- Email matt@roll20.net.
-
Use the subject line: “Crowdfunding Mail — [Your Publisher Name] — [Send Date]”
- E.g., “Crowdfunding Mail — Onyx Path Publishing — October 9th”
-
Other instructions to include:
- Email subject line (max 8 words / 50 characters)
- Full email body text (clearly separate any side notes or instructions)
- Specify if it’s for pre-launch
Graphics
- Up to two (2) graphics may be included, but they must be pulled directly from your live campaign page.
- If the campaign is not live yet, provide a preview key or screenshot showing the Fulfilled by DriveThru graphic.
AI Content Policy
We will not send promotional emails for campaigns containing AI-generated artwork or text. Publishers are expected to disclose AI usage, per platform guidelines.
Important Note on Priority
Customer email promotion for crowdsourcing is an optional, courtesy service offered at DriveThru’s discretion. It is not a guaranteed or prioritized marketing channel and should not be relied on as your primary or only means of promoting your crowdfunding campaign. Publishers should maintain their own marketing plan independent of this service.
